GRC's Space Academy - Completing Grades 1-5

June 30 - July 11 — 25 Exciting Years of Space Travel: The Who, What and How!
Saddle up in your spacecraft and explore how all things ‘space’ have changed over the past 25 years! See how the Mars Pathfinder lander and robotic rover Sojourner brought the Red Planet (Mars) into our view. Analyze space materials and explore astronomy to understand more about our solar system. How has the Hubble telescope advanced our knowledge of space? What about extra-solar earth-like planets? Experiment with the effects of weightlessness. Uncover the design elements of Apollo spacecraft. Then separate fact from fiction as we determine what should have been in the Sci-Fi movies. Design, build and launch your own model rocket.

July 14 – 25 — 25 Years into Space Future: Advancing Our Space Life
Guide your spacecraft into a wormhole or accelerate to near light speed and journey into the future of the human presence in space. What will it look like 25 years from now? Problem solve health and life support issues on orbiting space stations. Build and launch your own rocket. Explore future "firsts." Determine how you might travel for a vacation to the moon or Mars. Learn about the Constellation program for future manned space exploration. Discover how elements from the Apollo program have been adapted for the new Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle and the Ares 1 Crew Launch Vehicle.
GRC's Advanced Space Academy - Completing Grades 6-8

June 30 - July 11 — Technology Advances in Space Travel: Starts and Stops
Did you know that modern cars have more technology built into them than the original vehicles used in space exploration? Experiment with GPS (global positioning system) technology as you do a simulated space trek. Construct, test and evaluate the performance of flying vehicles of space and aviation exploration, from hot air balloons to rockets. Design and launch your own rocket. Consider the practicality of the solar balloon designed by France for use on Mars. How many failed missions to Mars have been undertaken? Practice a potpourri of science experiments and demonstrations related to general space exploration.

July 14 – 25 — 25 Years Ahead: Is Outer Space Really 'MySpace?'
Can you see into the space program 25 years from now? Will you be on the next Martian scientific team trying to determine what happened to the water that once was on the planet? Has the Hubble telescope given us information that will extend our future explorations? Create your own specialized rocket. Look at ethical and moral questions we’ll face. Can you have 'MySpace' on the moon? You be the judge and decide who "owns" the property in space. What about property on Mars? If you buy a ticket to the Smithsonian exhibits of Viking 1 and Viking 2 now, could you also be the first to visit a museum exhibit on the Red Planet in the future?
