Math, Marvels, & More - Completing Grades K-2
Liquid States, Number Traits & Creative Greats Bend, bounce and break light! But first, we’ll shed light on the phenomenon that occurs when your eyes and brain turn everything you see upside down and then right-side up! Then capture white light and break it into a rainbow! Create your own kaleidoscope and design a laser maze to explore the reflection of light. Hone your critical thinking skills with logic puzzles. Collect, record and graph data as you discover the laws of probability. If you have a bag of four different colored candies, how many pieces must you blindly choose before you have four of a kind? Explore color and patterns with an enchanted garden. Add your own brilliant bug creations that change colors in the sun! Is their camouflage as effective as that in nature? Design a shadow city silhouette. Dramatize poems from – where else? – A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. Focus on a little light science – but certainly not. science lite! ECO-nomics + ECO-logy Do you like to make money? Are you concerned about the environment? Become an entrepreneur as you create your own environmentally conscious company! Identify your ‘numbers’ people and get them on the spreadsheets, cash flow and stock distributions. Ascertain the artistic folks; create your product line and marketing materials. Single out the sales stars and get that new product sold. Put the team in motion to write an effective business plan. Can you produce your product and the packaging for it in an environmentally friendly way? What are the best distribution methods? Web shipping? Creative shelf display? Scientific inquiry, advertising art, decision-making skills, financial and mathematical interests – we need YOU! Academy Themes Connect With Physical Training An integral part of each Summer Academy experience, our physical training (PT) is no ordinary play time. Activities are directly linked to each Summer Academy. For example, in Math, Marvels and More, enjoy scooterboard math games and cooperative math aerobics. Space cadets will use teamwork in their cooperative games as they prepare for space travel. No matter the era or interest, PT always spells F-U-N!
